What is rhetoric?
Looking for: the art of persuasion or the art of communication. I took a lot of answers that said something, at least, about getting a message from one person to another.

What is visual rhetoric?
Looking for: something like: the use of visuals to send messages

Think of three specific examples of visual rhetoric that were analyzed in this chapter; identify them and state their themes.
There were a lot of these, of course. Check the book.

What is an editorial cartoon?
Something like: a cartoon that makes some point, usually about a current event. Took a lot of different answers here, too.

3. What should you do if you miss class?
Was looking for: contact a friend to find out what you missed. I took some other answers about the reasons why absences may be excused.

4. When should you ask for an extension (on a deadline)?
Was looking for: before the deadline.

5. True or false: I like it when you turn down the corners of your multi-page documents to turn them in, instead of stapling.
False: I'd rather you leave all the papes unfastened than have you turn over the corners, which, when you have a lot papers, makes the stack very unwieldy. Staples and paperclips are good; use 'em.

6. T or F: Disk failure is among the acceptable excuses for not turning a paper in on time.
False.

7. What can happen to you if you are caught plagiarizing?
Maximum: expulsion. Also lesser bad things: 0 for the paper, potentially failure of course.

8. The maximum number of absences in 103 is _______?
I took 6 or 5. 6 is the upper limit: that's where you feel. So, realisticaly, you don't want to miss more than 5 class meetings.

9. If you miss six classes, the department requires ______________.
Fail you.

10. What happens to your assignment score if you turn in your work late?
Drops one letter grade per class day the work is late.

11. The minimum grade you must achieve in 103 in order to go on to 104 and satisfy the "core curriculum" requirements is: __________.
You need to earn a "C."

12. Checking email, surfing the web, text-messaging, sleeping, or otherwise ignoring what is happening in class on a given day may be regarded as: __________.
An absence

13. How often would I like to hear to have you participate in discussion?
Once a week, as a guideline. But, obviously, as often as possible.

14. T or F: The course schedule included with your syllabus is set in stone and will not change.
False: the course is a work in progress and may change in big or small ways as we go.

15. How long should you give me to respond to emails?
At least 24 hours. (I took bigger numbers, too.)
